Sidewalk Repair Program

Did You Know . . . Residential sidewalks are the responsibility of the homeowner?

Eddie EagleWhen a sidewalk becomes unsafe or hazardous and requires maintenance, upkeep, repairs, or needs to be reconstructed, it is the responsibility of the homeowner.

Eddie Eagle

Sidewalks with faults or trip hazards greater than two inches and sidewalks  with depressions greater than five percent should be repaired. These include most indentations that make the sidewalk path lower than the curb.

If you are unsure if your sidewalk meets this criteria or you need to report a hazardous sidewalk, please email Code Enforcement or call 972-412-6283.

But Wait!
The City of Rowlett offers a "50/50" sidewalk replacement program to assist homeowners in replacing substandard sidewalks within the rights-of-way.

In this program, the City will pay up to 50 percent of the repairs and the homeowner will be responsible to pay the other 50 percent. Funding is limited and the program is only available while funds last.

It's important for homeowners to remember that the 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program does not release property owners of their responsibility for maintaining the sidewalk.

Homeowners may not be aware but when a sidewalk is unsafe or hazardous and results in damage or injury due to the defective condition they can be held liable. Code Enforcement will  begin conducting proactive sweeps to address hazardous sidewalks in August.

Please click here to watch an informative video about City sidewalks. Thank you for watching and educating yourself about your community.

For more information on sidewalk regulations please visit the City’s
website or email the
Code Enforcment Division. You may also call 972-412-6283. Thank you for making sure your sidewalks are safe!

SCAM ALERT
It has been reported that citizens in the Rowlett/Garland area have been receiving calls from a company claiming to be “working with the City” to “scope” your sewer lines. They are also claiming that there is an undetermined service charge for this service. The City is NOT conducting any such service.

The callers tell citizens that the City is requiring them to set up appointments to come to the citizen’s home to scope the sewer lines for a fee. These calls are not legitimate. Also, at no time do Rowlett Public Works employees have a need to enter your home. Should you receive any calls of this nature, please contact the City of Rowlett immediately at 972-463-CITY (2489) to make a report.

Recent Burglaries in Toler Bay and Harborside
The Rowlett Police Department has been investigating a series of burglaries of storage sheds in the Toler Bay II addtion (off Roweltt Road). There is always the possibility that the thieves could expand to our neighborhood so it's recommended that you put locks on your storage shed, record serial numbers of equipment and items you have in the shed and mark them with your name.

There have also been several recent incidents in Harborside itself. A burglary of a vehicle took place on Natchez
and some residents have had benches stolen off their front porches.
Be sure to report any burglaries or thefts to the Rowlett P.D. at 972-412-6200
